Techno jersey

In our latest OTTOBRE woman magazine, autumn-winter 5/2014, we’ve used techno jersey for both dresses and pants. We love this modern knit because it’s really easy to work with and the finished garments look so good.
Techno jersey is a heavyweight interlock knit, it’s quite firm and bi-stretch (stretch/recovery 20%). The fabric we used for our designs weighs 373gr/m² and is a blend of viscose, polyamide and elastane. The viscose content makes it breathable so it’s ideal for sportswear; we chose to combine coral and ivory techno jersey for this cool and sporty dress.
Pattern from OTTOBRE design 5/2014 in European sizes 34-52
We used black techno jersey for the comfortable workout pants, it has just the right amount of stretch to allow free movement but will retain its shape – no baggy knees here! We added piping to the outer leg seams for a professional look.

Techno jersey can also be made into an elegant and flattering dress. This deceptively simple vivid blue dress has a slight A-line cut. The firm quality of the jersey makes the dress very flattering, close fitting but not clingy.
You’ll find techno jersey in our Etsy shop here.
There are four lovely colors:gray, ivory, orange and turquoise.

magazine here and order single issues or subscribe to

Hello, we’re back!

As you may have noticed we’ve been a bit absent over the last month or so. We’ve been very, very busy moving our sewing studio to our new home just next door and at the same time preparing our fantastic winter kids magazine (you can have a sneak peak here). Or go to our website to leaf thru the online edition.

Now that the magazine is winging its way to your letterboxes and news-stands and we have finally tidied away every last button and spool of thread in the studio we've planned a little catch-up time so over the next week we’ll be posting a few extras from the latest autumn kids issue and our most recent woman magazine before sharing some of the gorgeous photos we didn’t have room for in our new winter kids edition. Watch this space!

In the meantime here is a quick snap of our new studio where we are already starting work on our spring kids issue.
All assorted according to the colors.
Here is our sewing machines, ribbings, scissors, threads and buttons.
Our lovely trainees from Alsfeldt sewing school have been busy and
now our chairs have got new covers made of Marimekko fabrics.

We did not forgot our old friend.

The body-shaping slip: a woman’s best friend!

For our latest woman magazine we made a beautiful vibrant blue dress from techno jersey. This firm interlock knit combines viscose, polyamide and elastane to form a dense heavyweight yet breathable fabric. It’s very easy to sew and if you’re in a hurry you can even skip any seam finishes because it doesn’t fray.
The dress is unlined and our model is wearing a body-shaping full slip underneath it. This slip is truly a woman’s best friend as it smooths the tummy, lifts the bottom and shapes the bust. It is sewn from lightweight, silky viscose single jersey and is not only flattering but very comfortable to wear. You can sew it with a regular sewing machine or a serger.

The body of the slip consists of two layers; the inner layer is cut slightly narrower than the outer layer to provide the supporting and shaping effect. The layers are joined together with horizontal rows of three-step zigzag stitch just under the bust and below the hips then Framilon® clear elastic tape is stitched along the bottom hem to ensure that it stays in place. Framilon® tape comes in several widths and thicknesses and can be used for various purposes including gathering and stabilizing. For this design we are using it as a stabilizer so we’ve used a slightly thicker tape than we would for creating gathers.

The shoulder straps are threaded through rings and sliders (bra accessories) so they are adjustable and we also stitched Framilon® to the wrong side of the straps which keeps them securely on your shoulders and gives them just the right amount of stretch.

You’ll find the patterns for both the slip and the dress in our latest OTTOBRE woman magazine, Autumn/Winter 5/2014.
You can browse the magazine here and order single issues or subscribe to the magazine via our website.

If you go down to the woods today...

Autumn is great time of year to pick mushrooms.
They are everywhere, on the sides of footpaths,  sprouting under the trees, clinging to stumps... Some of them are delicious and edible and some poisonous. So it is good to know them before you pick and eat them.
Yesterday we ate soup made of chanterelles. It was delicious – fresh, tender, bursting with flavour and far tastier than those you buy from the supermarket. So...go down to the woods!

You find the patterns and instructions for our "mushroom soup" here:
