As the autumn draws in and the days get cooler, nice and warm accessories come in handy again. This autumn we are especially proud of our simplest item, a knit wrap. In addition to only requiring one pattern piece, it is easy to sew and fun to wear. And what’s more, it suits any figure!
The wrap can be worn as a short cape, folded in a double loop for a neck scarf, or pulled over the head as a hood. You can even slip two wraps on at the same time. Worn as a pelerine round the shoulders, the wrap keeps the chill off on cool days. It also transforms a basic top or tunic into elegant office wear.
You can secure the wrap in position with a large kilt pin or a striking brooch. For a truly distinctive effect, you can drop the wrap down to the hips for a miniskirt, or wear it over just one shoulder like a toga. Your imagination is the only limit!
The best material for the wrap is soft, lightweight and well-draping single jersey – either in viscose, cotton or a warm viscose/wool blend.
You can order viscose/wool single jersey from our online shop.
Take part in a draw for lovely prizes! Tell us which of the wraps displayed in the photos, or which of the ways it is worn, appeals to you most. Post your opinion by writing it in the Comment field and you will be entered in a draw for a wrap and tunic made to your own measurements as well as for two viscose/wool wraps. All winners can choose the size of the wrap as well as its color from the range of the knits stocked in our shop.
The draw will take place September 8, 2010.
If you wish to enter with two draw tickets, publish the front cover of our latest issue on your blog and link it to our draw. Remember to include your blog address in the comment!
UPDATE: The draw has ended and the winners will be published shortly.
The magazine was full of great ideas as usual, but this wrap was the greatest. Picture 4 is probably my favourite.

I think I like #2 the best. All the versions are intriguing-but I can't quite figure out how some of the effects were achieved!
ReplyDeleteI like the contrast of #7 the best, though I'm not sure how to go about it. Can't wait to get the magazine, I hear it's already popping up in places. Thank you for a wonderful looking issue.
ReplyDeleteI think I like #4 and #8 the best. I never thought of making a wrap before, but it seems simple enough and it's nice to see pictures of different wearing options.
ReplyDeleteI like the best number 4 and number 7. I think both are great ways to cover up in the early days of autumn without having to carry a jacket around.
ReplyDeleteI received my Ottobre magazine yesterday and was planning on making this wrap, and I love the free time / sports clothing as well. I find it a pity that the more fitted patters for coats and shirts are only made up to size 46, because I'd love to make them but I'd have to grade them up 2-3 sizes.
I like the style of number 2 best, but would like to see it (with that outfit) in black instead. I may have to find some nice knit to make a wrap like this for my mom for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI love picture 6 the best. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for my issue, but know it won't be in until probably Tuesday... but I'm currently sewing from the Spring/Summer issue.
I wrote about this giveaway on my blog. Thank you!
ReplyDeletehttp://sproutingflowers.wordpress.com/2010/08/27/ottobre-design-giveaway-mildred-multi-use-wrap/
oh i adore #8 and #9......how can i choose?? i will make two and wear them both at the same time and get the full effect :)
ReplyDeleteI like #2, but #8 is nice also, and you would not need a jacket.
ReplyDeletenumber 7 is definitely my favorite and the most original...
ReplyDeleteI think you can't go wrong with the simplicity of #4, it would be a pretty addition to so many tops. I'm intrigued by the asymmetric wrapping in #3 and #7, too. I'll have to see those in person. Can't wait for the issue!

ReplyDeleteFinland is hot when it comes to sewing! These issues have an entire wardrobe of rockin' potential for any woman, of any size and shape :)

Oh, I love these. It is very hard to pick a favorite. I think the middle right gets my vote, but the middle left is a close contender.
ReplyDeletehttp://welcometomyworld-susan.blogspot.com/
I love #4 & & 8 best. I plan on making a wrap and shirt in the same fabric - so many ways to wear it!
ReplyDeleteLove number 4. Can hardly wait for my magazine to arrive, this looks like a fabulous issue.
ReplyDeleteLove the simplicity and elegance of this. Cannot wait to get the new magazine in my hands!
ReplyDeleteI love #4 but #7 comes in a close second, it looks so interesting!
ReplyDeleteBlogged about it here:

ReplyDeleteWhat a fabuluos prize! I can hardly wait for my magazine to arrive (fingers crossed it's today!). It's really hard to choose a favorite, but I really love #8.

I love number 8...my neck gets so cold! Waiting for the issue in excited anticipation!
ReplyDeleteI really like Number Five, so simple and elegant!
ReplyDeleteI liked #4 best but #2 is a close second.
ReplyDeleteI love number two! But most of all, I love that there are so many ways to wear it!
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI like #2 the most. I am breastfeeding mom and I think this version of the wrap will be a very useful and comfortable addition to my wardrobe. Look forward to get this issue soon.
They all are Very nice, but my favorit is the number 7!
ReplyDeleteCrossing fingers to win!
I love both colors on view 7. What a versatile piece!
ReplyDeleteAll are very beautifull,my favorut is 7
ReplyDeletebye
I liked #2 and #8. I'm gonna be brestfeeding in a few months and that wrap combined with nursing camisoles will make for an elegant look and discreet nursing!
ReplyDeleteI love #7, but I also love that it is so versatile.
ReplyDeleteMa préférée est la 7.... merci c'est très beau
ReplyDeleteI love #4. I will be a grandmother again in late November and I think I will make one for my daughter for when she is nursing my new granddaughter. It will be a beautiful cover-up.
ReplyDeleteWhen I've made it I'm sure I'll try out to use it like a hood like you've suggested in te magazine, must be so comfy!
ReplyDeleteBut of the options presented here I like 9 best, you must've thought out of the box for this one for sure!
What I like best is #2, #4 looks a lot like it and #9 is very, very nice!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI just got the magazine in the mail today. It was the best part of my day to browse it. I like setup #7 the best.
Regards,
Ana
I like #7 best, it looks like a funky ruched top.
ReplyDeleteI like #9 the best, this is the way I would wear it the most, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI love the way it is worn on photo 4 and 7 best. Blogged here:
ReplyDeletehttp://dotsnstripes.blogspot.com/
Well i like more than one but no 7 the most. But no 9 and no 4 are also very nice.
ReplyDeleteI think I like #4 the best- so lovely and simple- perfect for those of us who are not adventurous dressers :)
ReplyDeleteI love how it looks in #4! I also love the look of #9.
ReplyDeleteI like the elegance and simplicity of #4 the best, although all of them look great! It looks so easy and comfortable to wear.
ReplyDeleteI love #4 best, so elegant.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see all the different ways this wrap can be worn. I like #4 the best, for it's simplicity and elegance.
ReplyDeletewhen i first saw it on the website, i was not crazy about it, but after seeing these different options, my opinions have changed. i think #3 is my favorite, but what really appeals to me is the versatility.
ReplyDeleteLove it wrapped in picture #4. I didn't know if I liked it or not when I saw the pictures on your website but seeing all these options has changed my mind.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this thing! I'm so excited to play around with it! My favorites are #2, #4 and #1, although I'm going to have to give all the other alternatives a try, too. I also posted on my blog about this: http://wannashareaneedle.blogspot.com/2010/08/love-me-some-ottobre.html
ReplyDeleteYay, Ottobre!
I love items like this that can be worn multiple ways. All of the versions look fantastic but I think #4 would be my favourite. #8 comes in a close second.
ReplyDeleteI like #5 with the pin best. My magazine arrived today so I am looking at my stash of material trying to decide which fabric to use to make this. blklman at xtra dot co dot nz
ReplyDeleteI like #8--it just makes me feel warm and cuddly looking at it.

I love 7 the best, I can't wait to make some of these.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible versatile piece. I love the drape of #4. This will be on the top of the list to make when I head back into the workforce after being a stay at home Mum.
ReplyDeleteThese are a lot of possibilities !
ReplyDeleteI like most of them, but number 2 is my favorite.
It's hard to choose, they all look great, but I would say #1 looks best. Thanks for this wrap, it's like a delicious desert in your latest magazine issue!
ReplyDeleteI like numbers 6 and 8 the best. Perfect with a matching shirt. Love it !
ReplyDelete7 rocks, but knowing me 4 is probably the one that'll get worn around here.
ReplyDelete-Corie
I like #7 the most. I already made 2, but don't get it that nice.
ReplyDelete#3 is also a favourit.
I love #7!!
ReplyDeleteI don't see too many loving #5 but I would wear that one all the time! The pin gives it such a dressy Scottish touch:)
ReplyDeleteI like nr. 7 best on the model, but will probably wear nr. 8 and 2 more often. I like this item and will probably make a couple. My first one will be made from a blue jersey left over from my first home made pyjama's, made from an altered trousers pattern and a longsleeve pattern of earlier ottobre women magazines.
ReplyDeleteThey're all so great - I Like #4 for its simplicity but I'm drawn to the look of #1 and #8. My husband likes the look of #7 and wants me to figure out how to get that effect.
ReplyDeleteLove #4 and #8 - very cool!
ReplyDeleteI like the way #8 is draped, simple but lovely and also functional.
ReplyDeleteI love #7 - guessing this is two wraps?
ReplyDeletePicture 7 is my favourite
ReplyDeleteI like the versions 5, 8 and 9. The color does of course also very much. And there should be able to make a decision! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of making the wrap in two different colors for a completely different look. I have to say, #7 is my favorite design.
ReplyDelete#8 for the win! I love that it adds colour and you don't have to worry about it coming undone and falling off, like a scarf.
ReplyDeletehttp://jintyahoy.blogspot.com/2010/08/ottobre-giveaway.html
I'm new to blogging but I have a lot of ideas. If you like crafts, sewing and pretty purchases then please follow me... I'm ever so lonely at the moment...
I like no. 2 best. But I'd try the others out.
ReplyDelete:)
I think I like #2 best, but some of the other styles are intriguing also!
ReplyDeleteYou've made me start thinking, with the "toga" comment...one of our fall plays at the high school needs togas. I could make a simple knee-length shift and pop a wrap over it for "instant toga"! Since I'll be costuming around 20 kids in togas, something fast and easy is probably best. Thanks for the idea!
I blogged about this issue and the giveaway at DragonflyUnlimited - Ottobre Woman Wrap Contest
I love #2 the best, worn as a light outerwear piece or an extra layer inside to keep warm. But I'm intrigued by the others and all the variations you show!
ReplyDeleteI like 2, 4 and 8 most.
ReplyDeletealso i linked in my blog
http://terapiahuone.blogspot.com/2010/08/ottobre-design-woman-510-uusin-lehti.html
I like both #1 and number 8. All the variations are great. My very style conscious young teen likes # 8 as well. Can't wait to get my issue.
ReplyDeleteJenn H- NC
Number 4 and #8...it's too hard to choose!
ReplyDeleteI received my magazine and love it, especially the wrap! But I came here (and to the website) looking for the full-figured woman alterations promised for the jersey tops and the coat. Where can I find these instructions?
ReplyDeleteMy fave is number 8. But most styles are very wearable.
ReplyDeleteI posted few words about the newest issue in my blog: http://sammahar.blogspot.com/2010/08/uusin-ottobre-design.html
I prefer the number 7, but all are very beautifull ways to wear it !
ReplyDeleteTough choice! I think 2 is my favourite, though I am sure I will be making one and wearing it in several of the ways!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great issue! The wrap is genius - I love # 4 and # 5 the best. So sophisticated and versatile.
ReplyDeleteI'd say n°2 and n°8! These look so comfy and "lady-like".
ReplyDeleteI posted it on the French website:
http://ottobreaddicts.canalblog.com/archives/2010/08/18/18840776.html
Number 7 is my favourite! I also blogged about the prize draw: http://tingelitaivas.blogspot.com/2010/08/ottobre-arpoo.html :)
ReplyDeleteI love the look of #7!
ReplyDeleteNumber 7 is the one that I like the best.
ReplyDeleteNumbers 7 & 2 are my favourites.
ReplyDeletewww.vakerryksia.blogspot.com
My favorite is number 8.
ReplyDeleteI like number 9 the best, might have to go stash diving.
ReplyDeleteI like number 8 and number 7, but number 8 is my absolute favourite style, it will be great for cold days at work or at home. I wasn´t planning to sew one, but when I see the wrap in different styles here on the blog, I´ve changed my mind. I´m definitely going to sew one or two for myself.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are numbers 3 and 7.
ReplyDeleteI'll also advertise prize draw here: http://www.unajanunelmia.blogspot.com/
I am really enjoying number 8. It looks so comfy and pretty in the same time. I also think that the draping would be so so so flattering!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have linked your cover for the second draw on my blog: http://quirkyprettycute.blogspot.com/2010/08/surprisingly-amazing-ottobre.html
I`m about to try them all! My favourite however is #3.
ReplyDeleteI also link the cover of the latest issue on my blog:
http://by-peukaloinen.blogspot.com
#7 appeals to me the most because it is so unusual.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try this pattern. I think wrap style 4 is the most appealing to me, but I love the colors against the black dress in the other styles.
ReplyDelete#7 is my favorite - very chic! Is this folded in a double loop? Would be lovely and warm for Winter
ReplyDeleteOops! Forgot to mention- I just put the cover of this issue and blogged about it at http://sewbabynews.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI like numbers 3 and 8. I plan on purchasing the magazine for that pattern, but I haven't figured out they drape that way.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is No 2!!!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Croatia
Christiane
I always blog about the new issues because it is so exciting to get the new magazine in the mail. :)
ReplyDeletehttp://mermaids103.blogspot.com/2010/08/its-here.html
I like numbers 2 and 3 and I will definitely be making this simple pattern up..I'm thinking Christmas presents! This is a great issue and I will be making several of the patterns. Thanks! And keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI like wrap number 4. My friend Tammy (Izzie) told me about the contest, but actually,I'll probably post this on my yoga blog, as you have workout wear featured in this OTTOBRE issue.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
yogawithgaileee at gmail dot com
I made a blog post on my yoga site about the wrap, and also about the yoga clothing you have in the issue. Here is my link..

Thanks!
yogawithgaileee at gmail dot com
I like number 4 and 8 the best, I think. Thanks for another great issue!
ReplyDeleteI think number 2 for me - so amazing it can be worn all those ways!
ReplyDeleteI think No4 is my kind of style. But all the versions give quite a lot of inspiration and options.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI like numbers 4 & 5 the best. I really like the tops in this issue, especially number #1 with the flowers on it.
ReplyDeleteI like number 8 best. Warm and cosy. It would also make a nice gift as others have said.
ReplyDeleteAnd Ottobre; when are you going to give us bra patterns? I'd love to see you put your drafting skills and creativity into a good sturdy bra pattern. One of the variations could be with wool jersey (lining?). I hate those slimy nylon things or sweaty cottons for winter.
#7 is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI think number 2 is the best one :)
ReplyDeletehttp://hanna-naa.blogspot.com/
Hard decision, as they all look great. But I think my favourite is #7. Anyway, I will have to sew many of them and wear them in every possible way!
ReplyDeleteI am so much looking forward to my issue...
I love views 2 and 7. I've already started reviewing my stash to see what I might use to make the wraps myself!
ReplyDeleteI love #8...I'd love to have one of those wraps...and I'd also love to know what viscose jersey is called in the United States! Is it jersey with spandex or lycra in it? I see it all the time in the magazine and I always wonder! I'd love to get my hands on a wrap in your lovely European fabric!
ReplyDeleteLesli Richards
I love #7........ it looks so elegant and chic. It also looks like something from Anthropologie, which is my style, but to expensive. I love how you can wear it so many ways!!
ReplyDeleteblogged about it!!
ReplyDeletehttp://pliestopirouettes.blogspot.com/2010/09/most-amazing-wrap-giveaway.html
@never-tease-a-weasel: viscose jersey is rayon jersey.
ReplyDelete@Ottobre: when will the fabrics for this new issue get posted on the otto fabric blog?
@Ottobre: when will the FBA directions be posted here?
@Ottobre: Also, will you have diagrams on how to wrap the wrap in some of the ways it is shown here? Yesterday I finally figured out that the cover wrap is actually *two* wraps! It would be easier if there were directions or diagrams.
Thanks! I already told my favorite wrap (#2)and blogged about the new issue. This is just a comment, not a contest entry. :-)
Thank you for this great idea!
ReplyDeleteMy very favourite style/ photo is No. 4. But No. 1, 3 and 5 are also great!
:-))
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI love the new magazine, thank you very much!
My favourite style is on picture no. 3, besides I love the other ideas, too.
I like #7 best for style, but I would often pull one out of my bag and wear simple #4 when I am cold.
ReplyDeleteQuestions -
1. Should this be cut with the stretch going the long way to allow for twisting, or would it be better to cut it with the stretch going across the short width for stability?
2. Is there an easy way to copy the photos? I need a reference for myself to post in my closet. I'd also like to include a one page (or half page) printout with these style ideas with the ones I give as gifts. I think a line drawing could suffice for that.
No 8 is my clear favorite. it looks so warm on neck and shoulders and has such a nice drape.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the next winter!
Hi there,
ReplyDeletepicture 7 is the way it looks wonderful on me!
Michaela
Hi, I like number 4 because it is so special. But because I am not the type who likes to have a lot of attention, I would choose number 8. Especially, because it keeps my shoulders warm and prevents me from getting a painfull neck. (hope this is good english)
ReplyDeleteHi, I like number 4 because it is so special. But because I am not the type who likes to have a lot of attention, I would choose number 8. Especially, because it keeps my shoulders warm and prevents me from getting a painfull neck. (hope this is good english)
ReplyDeleteVersion nr 4 appeals most to me because it looks like a cozy, comfortable way to stay warm yet maintain a professional look. I look forward to versatile combinations.
ReplyDeleteNro 7 näyttää tosi hyvältä, itse tulen varmaan eniten käyttämään wräppiä mallin nro 4 tavoin.
ReplyDeletezilla [at] wippies.fi
I love the idea of it being worn as a hood - nice and cosy for chilly evenings!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of number 7, but can't quite figure out how it is done. I hope you will do a post showing us how the trickier versions are wrapped!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the way #7 is worn! Thanks for such a wonderful magazine and wonderful sewing patterns!
ReplyDeletemaadrose at sbcglobal dot net
I'd say it was number 7 as this gives the most visual interest for me. Such a simple concept and such a stunning result, brilliant design Ottobre!
ReplyDelete#7 is great for those of us without much waist to speak of! I would really like to try wearing the wraps that way.
ReplyDeleteI love number 1!!! mdeeter@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI would prefer number 8! Greetings from Germany.
I prefer number 4. It seems to be comfortable to wear but at the same time looks elegant :)
ReplyDeleteI prefer #4. I like the more simple look. When I was younger, I would have worn the more "twisty" looks, but now, I think the simpler one would look better with my other clothes and I could wear it with just about anything.
ReplyDeleteI like the simplicity and easy wear-ability of 4 and 5; and the cosy, warm, snugness of 8. I love #5's colour - very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to go for nr 8 and 2!
ReplyDelete7 on paras. Kaipailen niitä rintavan muutosohjeita tunikaan...
ReplyDeleteI like nr 8 and 4 the most.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for this adorable and versatile pattern. Even at the end of my pregnancy and while I'm nursing I will be able to wear it - that's great.
ReplyDeleteMy odds-on favourite is number 8. It will be warm and cosy in the upcoming chilly month.
I like most #8.
ReplyDelete- Pikku-Tiina -
I like most #2.
ReplyDeleteI really like no 7. I love that it is so different (I can't work out how you did it) and the colour contrast is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteDiana, Melbourne, Australia
I love this design, especially number 2 an 8! I just recently subscribed to Ottobre and this may be the first thing I make.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, San Francisco, CA
I love most number 2 and 8. It´s such a beautiful way how to wear it. It´making your style really special. GREAT!!!

ReplyDeleteI'm already in love with #'s 4, 5, 8 & 9. But if I had to choose only one, it would be #5. I'm linking, hope I'm not to late.

I am a new sewer and I just found your magazine. I was looking for larger sizes. cute patterns are hard to find in the US. I just love this wrap. Number 2 is my favorite. It's very flattering to all sizes!!
ReplyDeletePlease keep developing womens patterns in extended sizes!!! Thank you
