Gorgeous Autumn Prize Draw! Mildred Multi-Use Wrap

As the autumn draws in and the days get cooler, nice and warm accessories come in handy again. This autumn we are especially proud of our simplest item, a knit wrap. In addition to only requiring one pattern piece, it is easy to sew and fun to wear. And what’s more, it suits any figure!

The wrap can be worn as a short cape, folded in a double loop for a neck scarf, or pulled over the head as a hood. You can even slip two wraps on at the same time. Worn as a pelerine round the shoulders, the wrap keeps the chill off on cool days. It also transforms a basic top or tunic into elegant office wear.

You can secure the wrap in position with a large kilt pin or a striking brooch. For a truly distinctive effect, you can drop the wrap down to the hips for a miniskirt, or wear it over just one shoulder like a toga. Your imagination is the only limit!

The best material for the wrap is soft, lightweight and well-draping single jersey – either in viscose, cotton or a warm viscose/wool blend.
You can order viscose/wool single jersey from our online shop.

Take part in a draw for lovely prizes! Tell us which of the wraps displayed in the photos, or which of the ways it is worn, appeals to you most. Post your opinion by writing it in the Comment field and you will be entered in a draw for a wrap and tunic made to your own measurements as well as for two viscose/wool wraps. All winners can choose the size of the wrap as well as its color from the range of the knits stocked in our shop.

The draw will take place September 8, 2010.

If you wish to enter with two draw tickets, publish the front cover of our latest issue on your blog and link it to our draw. Remember to include your blog address in the comment!

UPDATE: The draw has ended and the winners will be published shortly.

The magazine was full of great ideas as usual, but this wrap was the greatest. Picture 4 is probably my favourite.

I think I like #2 the best. All the versions are intriguing-but I can't quite figure out how some of the effects were achieved!

I like the contrast of #7 the best, though I'm not sure how to go about it. Can't wait to get the magazine, I hear it's already popping up in places. Thank you for a wonderful looking issue.

I think I like #4 and #8 the best. I never thought of making a wrap before, but it seems simple enough and it's nice to see pictures of different wearing options.

I like the best number 4 and number 7. I think both are great ways to cover up in the early days of autumn without having to carry a jacket around.

I received my Ottobre magazine yesterday and was planning on making this wrap, and I love the free time / sports clothing as well. I find it a pity that the more fitted patters for coats and shirts are only made up to size 46, because I'd love to make them but I'd have to grade them up 2-3 sizes.

I like the style of number 2 best, but would like to see it (with that outfit) in black instead. I may have to find some nice knit to make a wrap like this for my mom for Christmas!

I love picture 6 the best. Beautiful!

I'm waiting for my issue, but know it won't be in until probably Tuesday... but I'm currently sewing from the Spring/Summer issue.

I think you can't go wrong with the simplicity of #4, it would be a pretty addition to so many tops. I'm intrigued by the asymmetric wrapping in #3 and #7, too. I'll have to see those in person. Can't wait for the issue!

I like nr. 7 best on the model, but will probably wear nr. 8 and 2 more often. I like this item and will probably make a couple. My first one will be made from a blue jersey left over from my first home made pyjama's, made from an altered trousers pattern and a longsleeve pattern of earlier ottobre women magazines.

They're all so great - I Like #4 for its simplicity but I'm drawn to the look of #1 and #8. My husband likes the look of #7 and wants me to figure out how to get that effect.

I think I like #2 best, but some of the other styles are intriguing also!

You've made me start thinking, with the "toga" comment...one of our fall plays at the high school needs togas. I could make a simple knee-length shift and pop a wrap over it for "instant toga"! Since I'll be costuming around 20 kids in togas, something fast and easy is probably best. Thanks for the idea!

I blogged about this issue and the giveaway at DragonflyUnlimited - Ottobre Woman Wrap Contest

I like number 8 best. Warm and cosy. It would also make a nice gift as others have said.

And Ottobre; when are you going to give us bra patterns? I'd love to see you put your drafting skills and creativity into a good sturdy bra pattern. One of the variations could be with wool jersey (lining?). I hate those slimy nylon things or sweaty cottons for winter.

@never-tease-a-weasel: viscose jersey is rayon jersey.

@Ottobre: when will the fabrics for this new issue get posted on the otto fabric blog?

@Ottobre: when will the FBA directions be posted here?

@Ottobre: Also, will you have diagrams on how to wrap the wrap in some of the ways it is shown here? Yesterday I finally figured out that the cover wrap is actually *two* wraps! It would be easier if there were directions or diagrams.

Thanks! I already told my favorite wrap (#2)and blogged about the new issue. This is just a comment, not a contest entry. :-)

Hello,
I love the new magazine, thank you very much!
My favourite style is on picture no. 3, besides I love the other ideas, too.

Anonymous said...

I like #7 best for style, but I would often pull one out of my bag and wear simple #4 when I am cold.

Questions -

1. Should this be cut with the stretch going the long way to allow for twisting, or would it be better to cut it with the stretch going across the short width for stability?

2. Is there an easy way to copy the photos? I need a reference for myself to post in my closet. I'd also like to include a one page (or half page) printout with these style ideas with the ones I give as gifts. I think a line drawing could suffice for that.
